The answer is “Yes”. Many second year students form their groups doing projects in their interested fields in spite of having no idea how to make their projects work.
At the faculty of Information Technology, King’s Mongkut Institute of Technology Lardkrabang, there are plenty of equipment and technology tools provided. All professors are willing to guide students and the laboratories are prepared.
In this year, many students have participated in competitions such as the Young Technopreneur, DEPA conceptual Fund Scholarship, the Business Brotherhood scholarship, and so on.
The Young Technopreneur project was held by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Samart-group companies. Two groups of IT students passed the first-round competition. One of the two groups created a work called “Usado”, which is an online shopping platform focusing on second-handed goods. The platform provides 3 things: checking the goods, taking pictures of goods and launching the goods on the website. There are four members: Phumipat Ponjaroensuk, Nattamon Thiengtham, Chanasorn Jitkraisorn and Saran Likitrujareon.
Even though the group did not pass the second-round competition, priceless experiences earned from the project are unmeasurable. Many professionals trained them during their workshop in the first round.
The group did not give up on their dreams. Eventually, they got a scholarship from Digital Economy Promotion Agency for their Usado work. The program was named “DEPA Conceptual Fund” held by the KMITL Research and Innovation Services (KRIS). The group was funded 50,000 Baht, as well as the other group from the Faculty of IT.
The Business Brotherhood, another big scholarship, is a collaboration between KMITL and Sripathum University, along with Synnex Company, the main sponsor. Two out of the seven final-selected groups are IT students. The fund was 100,000 Baht per group. One of the IT groups have five members; three of those are IT students from KMITL: Kasidis Chowasin, Phuree Kanuson and Pakorn Suppanimitwassana. Their work is “Mover: School Bus Security Platform”, a tracking system and taking care of students security on a school bus.
Most of them have done a lot of academic and non-academic activities at the faculty. It means you can manage your time wisely and enjoy both things. Time management is important for balancing your life.
In conclusion, It is suggested to start your own project at the moment with your current knowledge. The professors and other students at the faculty of IT can help and guide you along the way. With dedication and perseverance, you will walk to your destination. As long as you do not give up, all your hard work will be paid-off and you will cherish that moment.
